Senator-Elect Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) today announced that Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt has selected him to serve as the Ranking Republican Member on the New York State Senate’s Codes and Ethics Committees.
“I am honored to have been chosen to be the lead voice for our conference on the Senate’s Codes and Ethics Committees,” said Palumbo. “Now more than ever, it is critical to bring balance and common sense to Albany and fight back against radical policies that weaken law enforcement and make our communities less safe. I look forward to being a strong advocate for public safety and our Long Island communities on these important committees.”
"Senator-Elect Palumbo brings real experience to the Senate Republican Conference, and we look forward to him leading our members in these key committees," said Senate Republican Leader Ortt.
Senator-Elect Palumbo was selected as the Ranking Republican Member on Codes and Ethics because of his strong background in these areas. He served as the Ranking Minority Member on the Assembly Judiciary Committee for five years, and was a former prosecutor with Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office prior to that. As an Assemblyman, he also helped pass a state constitutional amendment stripping corrupt politicians of their taxpayer-funded pensions.
Senator Palumbo noted that the Codes Committee is one of the most active committees in the State Senate and its jurisdiction encompasses all aspects of criminal justice policy. It is an influential committee through which all criminal justice legislation must pass before it can reach the floor of the Senate and reviews hundreds of bills each session.
“All New Yorkers are looking forward to 2021 and a return to some sense of normalcy,” said Palumbo. “Protecting them from radical policies, safeguarding their rights and improving public safety will go a long way towards ensuring that a post-pandemic New York is a safer, stronger place to call home.”
