Senator Anthony Palumbo (R,C-New Suffolk) this week voted to pass several environmental protection bills that will help conserve the state’s natural resources and protect the environment.
“As the East End’s new State Senator, I am committed to continuing the strong environmental record of my predecessor and mentor, Senator Ken LaValle,” said Senator Anthony Palumbo. “From hosting the yearly Environmental Roundtable with area stakeholders and local officials; to advancing bi-partisan legislation to reduce our impact on the environment, I will always advocate for policies to conserve our natural resources and protect our region’s waterways, beaches and drinking water.”
The environmental protection and conservation legislation Senator Palumbo helped pass this week includes:
· S.543 that seeks to reduce plastic waste in landfills and oceans by banning the use of plastic personal care products in hotels;
· S.6191 to expand land conservation efforts in New York State by setting the goal of conserving 30 percent of land in the state by 2030;
· S.660 planting of pollinator friendly plants in medians along New York State Highways to enhance this important ecosystem; and
· S.2838a to reduce carbon emissions by requiring the state to create a plan to transition to zero emission vehicle fleet.
“The legislation passed this week will help to reduce our carbon footprint while promoting environmental conservation efforts throughout New York State and here on the East End of Long Island,” said Senator Palumbo. “Promoting environmental conservation efforts are an essential aspect of protecting the region’s quality of life and helping the countless industries that depend on our natural resources for their livelihood.”
“I am hopeful these bills and other sound environmental policies will be signed into law before the conclusion of this year’s legislative session,” concluded Senator Palumbo.
