Senator Stec Announces more than $475,000 in State Library Construction Aid for Local Libraries

Senator Dan Stec (R,C-Queensbury) today announced that six libraries in the 45th Senate District will be the recipients of more than $475,000 in state library construction aid. This funding, part of a $34 million allocation in the state budget, is dedicated toward financing construction of new library buildings, construction of additions to existing buildings, and the renovation and/or rehabilitation of existing space.
 
Stec is pleased to announce this funding and sees it as crucial in helping our region’s libraries better meet the needs of their communities.
“Libraries are cornerstones of our communities, home to important resources and services,” said Stec. “It’s vital that we ensure our libraries are state-of-the-art and equipped to fulfill a wide range of needs. The funding I’m announcing today will help improve accessibility and safety, ensuring that these facilities can thrive for years to come.”
 
The libraries in the 45th District receiving library construction aid are as follows:
 
  • Clinton Essex Franklin Lib System, 33 Oak St., Plattsburgh - $258,288.00 for the complete replacement of the current flat roof of the Library System;
  • Paine Memorial Free Library, 2 Gilliland Lane, Willsboro - $10,500.00 for snow guards to be added to the roof to increase safety and access to the library;
  • Saranac Lake Free Library, 109 Main St., Saranac Lake - $95,341.00 to add hybrid meeting capabilities and appropriate air conditioning to address accessibility, as well as upgrade lights to LED for increased energy efficiency;
  • Canton Free Library, 8 Park St., Canton – $51,128 to add a nursing room to accommodate breastfeeding employees and visitors and reconstruct bathrooms to address ADA compliance;
  • Canton Free Library, 212 Rensselaer St., Rensselaer Falls - $55,500.00 to install solar panels as part of an expansion and conversion of the library to a net-zero building; and
  • Norwood Public Library, 1 Morton St. Norwood - $14,625.00 to provide undisrupted patron services to the community during power outages by installing an emergency generator.
