Senator Marcellino Confirms New Department Of Environmental Conservation Commissioner

State Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset), Chairman of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, today announced the confirmation of Denise Sheehan as the new Commissioner of Department of Enivornmental Conservation. Senator Marcellino moved her confirmation out of his Committee for approval by the entire Senate.

"New York State is the crown jewel of the United States when it comes to natural resources. Citizens can climb our mountains, hike in our forests, and relax at our beaches because we had the foresight to protect these treasures. I look forward to working with Denise to continue to protect our air, water and natural resources," said Senator Marcellino.

Commissioner Sheehan is now responsible for administration and enforcement of all the environmental conservation laws of New York State. She will oversee a workforce of over 3,350 employees and manage an annual budget of over $950 million.

"Denise has been with the Department of Environmental Conservation since 1998. She has worked her way up through the agency and has a thorough working knowledge of many environmental issues facing our State. It is her commitment and attention to detail which will help us face the challenges of protecting the environment," continued Senator Marcellino.

"From Montauk to Buffalo and from Staten Island to Plattsburgh, our residents will continue to enjoy the natural resources that many people take for granted. Whether it is cleaner water, fresher air, or healthier ecosystems.
