Celebration To Thank Community Volunteers For Responding To Needs Of Hurricane Victims

State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) recently hosted a celebration to thank the volunteers of the community who responded to the calls for help and donated items to the collection organized by his office, CERT 1 NYC, and the Brooklyn Rotary Club, at a reception to held on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at the Bay Ridge Manor.

Over seven truckloads of items including food, water, clothing (new and used), baby items, toiletries, books, school supplies, and shoes were sent to both Houston, Texas and Lake Charles, Louisiana. Items were received by Senator Golden’s District Officers by over 700 residents of Southwest Brooklyn.

Senator Golden honored the contributions of numerous organizations including: CERT 1 NYC, the Brooklyn Rotary Club, the East Coast Kruzers, 68th Precinct Auxiliary, the Brooklyn CERT. Assemblyman Matthew Mirones and presented Certificates of Recognition on behalf of Senator Golden who was unable to attend due to the death of his mother-in-law.

Assemblyman Mirones, reading a prepared statement from Senator Golden stated, "The help that you gave to the people of the South, proves to the world what I already knew: that the people of this community are among the most generous and patriotic in this country. You have renewed the belief that when America faces hard and trying times, Americans respond and come to the aid of their neighbors."
