Senator Dilan Announces Free Educational Opportunities At Brooklyn’s Libraries

          State Senator Martin Malave Dilan (D-Brooklyn) today encouraged his constituents to participate in a number of free classes that are being offered by the Brooklyn Public Library Literacy Program to help further their educational opportunities. There will be classes offered for those preparing for the GED exam as well as English as a Second Language (ESOL) courses.

          "I am very pleased to assist the Brooklyn Public Library by helping to spread the word about these valuable classes. This is a great opportunity for people to expand their knowledge and gain important skills to help improve their lives," Senator Dilan said.

          The classes are being offered at a number of locations throughout Senator Dilan’s Senate district.

          Registration for English as a Second Language (ESOL) courses will take place Saturday, January 7, from 11a.m. - 2p.m. at the Williamsburg Library, 240 Division Avenue @ Marcy Avenue. Registration must be done in person, and those who attend must be prepared to stay for one hour. Classes are to be held at the following locations and times within the 17th Senate District:

Greenpoint Library
107 Norman Avenue @ Leonard Street - (718) 349-8504
Wednesdays 6p.m. - 8p.m. and Saturdays 11a.m. - 3p.m.
Beginning January 18th and ending March 25th

Williamsburg Library
240 Division Avenue @ Marcy Avenue - (718) 302-3485
Tuesdays 6p.m. - 8p.m. and Saturdays 11a.m. - 3p.m.
Beginning January 17th and ending March 25th

          Registration for those preparing to take the GED will be held at two separate locations within the 17th Senate District. They will take place Monday, December 12, 2005, from 1:30p.m. to 4:30p.m. at the Dekalb Library, 790 Bushwick Avenue and Wednesday, January 12th, 2006 from 10:15a.m. - 1:15p.m. At the Bedford Library, 496 Franklin Avenue. Those planning to register and attend classes at either location must arrive on time with a pen and be prepared to stay for three hours. After registration is complete, classes will continue at Dekalb Library and Bedford Library on Mondays and Fridays from 10:15a.m. - 1:15p.m. beginning January 20th and ending March 31st.
