Nozzolio Announces Disaster Recovery Funds For Summer Storm

Michael F. Nozzolio

Albany – New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) today announced that the Town of Webster, the West Webster Fire District and the Union Hill Fire Department have been awarded over $20,000 in funding for the recovery effort from last year’s late summer storm which resulted in a federal disaster declaration.

“Monroe County was hit hard by last summer’s storm and this funding will help cover the expenses that were incurred during a very costly cleanup,” said Senator Nozzolio. “I am extremely pleased that the Town of Webster, the West Webster Fire District and the Union Hill Fire Department are receiving this necessary funding and I commend Governor Pataki for his commitment to the recovery efforts in Monroe County.”

The Town of Webster received $16,401.63, the West Webster Fired District received $3,132.94 and the Union Hill Fire Department received $1,526.06 for the storm that began August 13th and continued through September 16th. The funds will provide reimbursement of the costs incurred for activities such as emergency protective measures, the restoration of public infrastructure such as roads and bridges, and debris removal.

The storm caused extensive flooding that closed State and local major roadways, isolating residents and significantly impacting businesses. The heavy rains caused power outages, and coupled with the road closures, forced scores to seek shelter out of their homes.

Today’s funding was forwarded from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to the State Emergency Management Office (SEMO), which is responsible for the coordination and distribution of disaster relief funds in the State.
