Senator Nozzolio Appointed To Key Budget Conference Committees
Albany – Calling the enactment of an on-time budget one of the most important aspects of keeping government accountable to the people, New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) today announced that he has been appointed to serve on the Joint Budget Conference Committees for Transportation and Public Protection. Nozzolio also serves on the Senate Finance Committee, which is responsible for all aspects of the state budget.
"It is an honor to be given the important responsibility of representing the Senate on the Transportation and Public Protection Budget Conference Committees," said Senator Nozzolio. “One of my top priorities is that state government remains accountable to the taxpayers of New York State and there is no better way to do that than to deliver an on-time State budget.”
“As a member of these important Budget Conference Committees, I will be working to provide funding for our highways, roads and bridges which are important to the safety of New Yorkers and the economic development of the State,” continued Nozzolio. “In addition, I will continue to fight to secure funding for the State Police, Correctional Services, Judiciary, and all other aspects of our criminal justice system and homeland security. As I determine these vitally important spending priorities, I will continue to make it a priority to protect the taxpayers from unnecessary government spending.”
The Transportation Budget Conference Committee is responsible for determining state spending to support the transportation infrastructure of New York. The Public Protection Budget Conference Committee is responsible for all aspects of the criminal justice and homeland security budgets for the State.
Joint Budget Conference Committees began public meetings today to work towards delivering an on-time budget.
The Transportation and Public Protection Budget Conference Committees are two of ten Budget conference committees negotiating various aspects of the State Budget. The other committees are: Education; Higher Education; General Government/Local Assistance; Health; Mental Hygiene; Human Services/Labor; Economic Development; and Environment, Agriculture and Housing.
