Senator Nozzolio Secures $100,000 For Mcdonough Park In Geneva
Geneva – New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) today announced that he has secured $100,000 in state funding for improvements to McDonough Park in Geneva, home of the Geneva Red Wings baseball team.
“McDonough Park is an important element to the revitalization of Geneva and improvements to the Park will help continue the City’s renaissance,” said Senator Nozzolio. “It was a pleasure for me to secure this funding to assist with updating the Park to make it an even more enjoyable place to watch a baseball game.”
The state funding will be used to pay for improvements to McDonough Park, including; construction of a pavilion picnic area in right field; new fencing and netting behind home plate; improvements to the dugouts and drainage system on the field; construction of a new concessionaire and improvements to the existing concession areas; and an overall painting of McDonough Park, including all bleachers.
The funding will also be used for new modular bleachers in the Park. The project is due to be completed before the opening of the 2006 season.
Rich Rising, City Manager for Geneva, said “I would like to thank Senator Nozzolio for his efforts to secure this generous funding. His assistance was critical to rebuilding baseball in Geneva, a sport which has played a large part in the City’s history. The improvements at McDonough Park will go a long way in making that happen."
Don Cass, Mayor of the City of Geneva, said “I would like to thank the Senator for all of his hard work in securing this substantial funding for McDonough Park. Improvements to McDonough Park have been needed for many years now and this funding will allow us to significantly upgrade the Park. Senator Nozzolio continues to be a champion of Geneva’s renaissance.”
David Herbst, Owner of the Geneva Red Wings, said “On behalf of all of the players and staff, I would like to say how extremely grateful we are to Senator Nozzolio for this funding and for his support of baseball in Geneva and the Finger Lakes region. Senator Nozzolio recognizes how important baseball is to the area and the Geneva Red Wings organization is proud to have the Senator representing our area.”
The announcement was made on Wednesday evening at “Senator Mike Nozzolio” night at McDonough Park. Free tickets to the game between the Geneva Red Wings and the Allegany County Nitros were provided by Senator Nozzolio. Last year, Senator Nozzolio secured $150,000 in State grants to create a community soccer field and small skateboard park at McDonough Park.
