Consumer Protection Board And Senator Fuschillo To Bring Consumer Fair To Farmingdale State University

The New York State Consumer Protection Board and Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), Chairman of the Senate’s Consumer Protection Committee, will be sponsoring a "Consumer Action Day" at Farmingdale State University’s Roosevelt Hall on Saturday, May 13th from 10 am to 5 pm.

The event will feature workshops and information about issues important to consumers and families. Experts on mortgages, energy conservation and identity theft will be featured at several free workshops presented by various state, county and federal agencies. Parents will also be able to obtain a "Safe Child" ID card, which will enable them to keep a record of their child’s fingerprints. This is part of an official U.S. program that helps authorities in their search for missing children, in conjunction with the New York State Amber Alert.

"This event is a great way for consumers to obtain information about many important topics all under one roof. The Consumer Protection Board has done a wonderful job of bringing all these agencies right into our community, and I hope that everyone will come and take advantage of this unique opportunity," said Senator Fuschillo.

"Our 2006 theme is 'Peace of Mind' and will address consumer issues ranging from the home, to child safety, and finances," said Teresa A. Santiago, Chairperson and Executive Director of the Consumer Protection Board (CPB). "We expect to have more than two dozen agencies and non-profit organizations to have informational tables providing services and information including Child ID cards, information on recalled toys and advice on credit counseling services."

- "The Nuts and Bolts of Choosing Child Care"
