Senator Fuschillo Reminds Nassau County Residents About Their Right To Challenge Their Assessment

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is reminding all Nassau County residents that they have the right to challenge their property tax assessment.

"Every year, residents have the legal right to grieve their property tax assessment if they believe that Nassau County has over-assessed them," said Senator Fuschillo. "I urge anyone who disagrees with the assessed value of their property to file a grievance application with the County’s Assessment Review Commission."

Individuals who want to challenge their property tax assessment must file an application with the Assessment Review Commission (ARC) between January 2 and March 1. ARC is an independent administrative tribunal, separate from the Nassau County Department of Assessment, that provides determinations of taxpayers’ requests for review and reduction of assessments. ARC reduces assessments that it finds overvalued, corrects errors in tax class designations and reviews denials of exemptions; ARC cannot increase assessments.

Residents would like to challenge their property tax assessment can call the Assessment Review Commission at 571-2391 to receive an application and information. Senator Fuschillo also has additional information and applications available, which can be obtained by calling his office at 546-4100 orCLICKING HERE.
