Bonacic Secures State Aid For Middletown Police

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) announced today at the Middletown Police headquarters that he has secured $50,000 in Senate Initiative Funding for the Middletown Police Department. The aid will be used to purchase additional surveillance cameras, as well as putting more police officers in downtown neighborhoods during the weekend.

Senator Bonacic said, "Our police must have the tools they need to protect the people of Middletown. Chief Byrne identified the need for more cameras as important. The City of Middletown is safe thanks to the dedicated officers of the Middletown Police Department. I am honored to support their work."

Chief of Police Matthew Byrne stated, "We would like to commend Senator Bonacic for supporting the City of Middletown Police Department’s efforts to fight crime. The $50,000 will allow us to further expand our existing public cameras. Thanks to Senator Bonacic we will be better equipped to enhance the quality of life for our residents and improve public safety overall."

"The public cameras, according to Chief Byrne, have proved to be instrumental in both solving and preventing crimes," Senator Bonacic stated. "We all can be proud of the City of Middletown Police for utilizing creative and innovative methods for fighting crime and keeping us safe."

Mayor Marlinda Duncanson stated, "Middletown thanks Senator Bonacic for all of his help. The funds will be earmarked for security in our downtown neighborhoods."

"Putting more officers on the street and giving them the tools they need to protect the public is a key goal of mine. State funding helps the Department meet equipment needs which might otherwise go unmet, or would have to be paid for by property taxes. I will continue to do all I can to support our local police departments," concluded Senator Bonacic.
