Senator Nozzolio Announces Installation Of Traffic Signal At Intersection Route 21 And Route 441

Marion—State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) today announced that the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) will be installing a four-way red-color traffic signal at the intersection of Route 21 and Route 441, also known as Marion-Walworth Road. The installation of the traffic light is the result of discussions that Senator Nozzolio had with Department of Transportation officials concerning the dangerous traffic conditions at the intersection.

Senator Nozzolio was contacted by Mark and Brenda Passmore regarding the critical need for additional safety measures at the intersection. The Passmore’s two teenage sons, Benjamin and Matthew, were tragically killed at the intersection in March when their car was struck by a tractor-trailer.

“This new traffic signal will help significantly improve traffic safety and hopefully prevent another tragedy occurring at this intersection,” said Senator Nozzolio. “The Passmore family tragedy affected the entire community and I would like to commend Mark and Brenda Passmore for their incredible strength by turning their grief into a positive effort to improve safety conditions at the intersection.”

In response to safety concerns raised by the Passmore family, Marion Town Supervisor Jody Bender, as well as other local residents, Senator Nozzolio contacted the State Department of Transportation and requested an examination of the traffic conditions at the intersection. After review, the DOT determined that the installation of a new four-way red-color traffic signal was warranted.

Assemblyman Bob Oaks said, “I am pleased that following our call for bringing greater safety to the Route 21 and Walworth-Marion Road intersection, the Department of Transportation studied this area and determined that four-way stop and safety approach lights will be installed within the next few weeks. I want to thank the Town of Marion municipal officials and local residents whose concern and efforts helped lead to this decision which will bring greater safety to all who travel these highways and will prevent any future tragedies.”

Marion Town Supervisor, Jody Bender said, “This is great news and I would like to sincerely thank Senator Nozzolio and Assemblyman Bob Oaks for all of their hard work to make this happen. If it wasn’t for them pushing to make this intersection safer for motorists, we never would have gotten approval from the Department of Transportation for a traffic signal.”

“One of my most important responsibilities as a State Senator is to listen to the concerns of my constituents and provide whatever assistance I can in helping them to make their communities better and safer places to live. I was pleased to assist in this matter and to work with the Department of Transportation in making this intersection safer for motorists,” Nozzolio concluded.

The installation of the traffic light will occur within the next few weeks.
