(ALBANY, N.Y.) Senator Dale M. Volker (R-C-I, Depew) announced today that he has secured $10,500 by the Pike Public Library within the adopted 2006-2007 New York State Budget. These state funds will be utilized for the Pike Library for renovation of their building which was built in the 1840’s.

"The Pike Public Library is the cornerstone of the community and is used by young and old alike," said Senator Dale M. Volker. "From normal functions of lending books and other materials, to compiling historical documents and artifacts relating to the Village of Pike’s history; the Pike Public Library is community asset that merits state funding. It goes without saying that the Pike Public Library is a benefit to the entire community and I was pleased to have secured funding to improve this historical building and the knowledge it gives to others."

Sharon G. Straw, Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the Pike Public Library said, "Our community and our patrons are very proud and supportive of our Library. This state grant secured by Senator Volker will allow us to renovate the exterior of our facility and divert our limited financial resources to improving our materials and programs that our patrons utilize daily, weekly and annually."

The Pike Public Library was first used as a carriage house and then changed into a Library in 1840. The exterior of the building needs new materials and renovations to ensure both the cosmetic and structural integrity of the facility.
