Golden Tours Tornado Ravaged Streets With F.e.m.a.

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today walked the streets of Bay Ridge and Sunset Park with officials of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Office of Emergency Management, and the State Office of Emergency Management, as part of the assessment of the community’s request for federal aid funds.

Senator Golden stated, "The Federal and State Emergency Management Agencies witnessed first hand the damaged caused by the F-2 tornado last Wednesday here in Brooklyn. It was important for an assessment to be made and for our request for federal dollars to be given immediate attention so that we can work with families and homeowners to rebuild our neighborhood. I continue to urge the federal government to declare this a disaster area. It is necessary for there is significant damage that needs repair and that will be very costly."

Senator Golden today also visited the disaster relief center opened at I.S. 30 this afternoon. The center, located at 415 Ovington Avenue, will be opened throughout the week from Monday through Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Senator Golden said, "The opening of the disaster recovery center, the establishment of transitional housing, debris removal and the issuance of building permits, together, will put the tornado-effected Brooklyn streets back on their feet. I commend Mayor Bloomberg, the Office of Emergency Management, and all City agencies, for an outstanding response and for an extraordinary effort."
