Senator Nozzolio And Assemblyman Finch Secure $100,000 For Veterans Memorial Park In Auburn

Auburn– In recognition of Veterans Day and the brave men and women who have defended our Nation, New York State Senator Michael Nozzolio and State Assemblyman Gary Finch today announced they have secured $100,000.00 in state funding for the construction of the Veterans Memorial Park in Auburn. Senator Nozzolio and Assemblyman Finch made the announcement at the proposed site of the memorial in a section of Pomeroy Park on Genesee Street.

“From the earliest days of our Nation, Cayuga County’s proud residents have continually gone above and beyond in answering the call to defend freedom and spread democracy throughout the world,” said Senator Nozzolio, a Commander in the New York State Naval Militia. “This important memorial will honor all of Cayuga County’s veterans who have sacrificed so much for our Nation.”

"It is an honor to join with Senator Nozzolio in securing a New York State Legislative Grant which will be a major financial component in the establishment of the Veteran's Memorial Park in Auburn,” said Assemblyman Gary Finch. “This memorial will recognize all the men and women who have served in the armed forces of this country from the time of the American Revolution to the present."

The Veterans Memorial Park will honor Cayuga County veterans of all wars, beginning with the American Revolution up to today’s soldiers. The Memorial Park was approved by the Auburn City Council in December 2006 and a groundbreaking on the project was held in April. Once completed, the project calls for the installation of 14 memorial stones, a flag pole and 20 granite benches.

“There is no greater debt owed than that which we owe to our veterans. In fighting for freedom and peace, our veterans secured America’s greatness, a greatness that prevails today because of their tremendous collective sacrifice. Cayuga County’s veterans are true heroes and this memorial will be a lasting tribute and place of honor where they will be appropriately remembered,” concluded Senator Nozzolio.
