State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman David G. McDonough (19th Assembly District) today presented the New York State Medal For Merit to Peter Linck, a veteran from Wantagh and a member of Wantagh American Legion Post #1273.

“Like so many other young men during World War II, Mr. Linck answered the call of duty to defend our nation from tyranny. His dedicated service to our country, first as a sergeant in the Army Air Force and later as an Airman First Class in the Air Force Reserve, make him deserving of our respect and gratitude. I congratulate him on earning this award and thank him for his dedicated service to our country,” said Senator Fuschillo.

“As a veteran, Mr. Linck made personal sacrifices so that we could enjoy the freedoms which we all cherish. He is a dedicated patriot, and I am proud to congratulate him on earning this honor,” said Assemblyman McDonough, himself a veteran.

Mr. Linck earned the Medal For Merit for his service as a sergeant in the Army Air Force during World War II. Three years after being discharged from the Army, Mr. Linck again served his country as an Airman First Class in the Air Force reserve from 1949 to 1953. Prior to receiving the New York State Medal For Merit, Mr. Linck also earned the American Theater Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.

The New York State Medal for Merit recognizes military personnel who were awarded a valor, achievement, commendation or meritorious service decoration or whose service directly supported combat operations.
