Senator Fuschillo Reminds Town Of Babylon Residents To Save Money On School Taxes Through New York State's Star Program

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) is reminding homeowners in the Town of Babylon that they can save money on their school taxes under New York State’s STAR program. Town of Babylon residents have until March 1, 2008 to file an application for the STAR program.

"New York State created the STAR program to help homeowners save money on their school tax bills, but there are still residents who are not receiving these savings because they have not signed up for the program," said Senator Fuschillo. "I urge all Town of Babylon residents who are not yet enrolled in the STAR program to file an application, so that they can begin receiving school tax relief."

The STAR program works in two parts:

- Basic STAR is available to all residents who own and live in their own home, condominium, or cooperative apartment, regardless of their age or income level.

- Enhanced STAR is available to senior citizens ages 65 and older who own and live in their own home and have an income under $70,650. If the property is owned by a husband and wife, only one of them must be at least 65 years old to qualify for this exemption.

Homeowners who already receive the Basic STAR exemption and senior citizens who receive the Enhanced STAR exemption and participate in the Income Verification Program do not need to refile.

Town of Babylon residents who would like more information about the STAR program can contact the Town of Babylon’s Department of Assessment at 631-957-3014, by visiting www.townofbabylon.com, or by CLICKING HERE.
