Alesi Legislation To Aid New York State Small Businesses

Senator Jim Alesi (R- Perinton) today announced that the Senate has passed his bill (S.3592-A) which would ensure small and medium-sized businesses are able to find information on economic programs, as well as assist them in complying with any necessary regulations, from the State regional economic development office.

“Small businesses are the fabric of our communities and New York’s economic engine is dependent upon their success,” said Senator Alesi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Economic Development and Small Businesses. “It’s imperative that New York State assist these businesses in any way possible. This legislation seeks to do just that by giving them a place to turn for assistance with everything from licensing and permits, to compliance with regulations.”

Senator Alesi’s bill would amend section 231 of the economic development law. Under the new legislation the New York State regional economic development offices would be authorized not only to provide information on regional economic development, but also provide assistance with regulatory compliance. This includes providing outreach to businesses for financial and technical assistance; accepting applications for licenses and permits; as well as providing assistance in compliance with federal, state and local rules, regulations, permits and licenses.

Said Alesi: “This legislation will play a crucial role in continuing the resurgence of the economy across the State. I will continue to do everything I can to support small business growth and fight for the welfare of small business owners throughout New York State.

Having passed both houses of the legislature, S.3592-A will now be sent to the Governor for his consideration. Should the Governor sign the bill into law, the new provisions shall take effect immediately.
