Sen. Alesi: Thornell Elementary Students Winners In Statewide Env. Contest
Senator Jim Alesi (R-Perinton) today announced that two students from Thornell Road Elementary School in Pittsford were selected as third place winners in the New York State Senate’s 17th annual I*MA*GREEN*NATION competition. Alyssas Ange and Julia Gorden, students at Thornell Elementary School will receive statewide recognition at a ceremony being held at the State Capitol on May 20.
"These two young students competed against hundreds of students from across New York State, and their creative ideas and displays were judged to be among the best in this year’s contest," said Senator Alesi. "I am so proud to represent these two students who have shown a remarkable understanding of the serious environmental challenges our communities face and used their imagination to come up with solutions to help make our neighborhoods clean and green. I know the Thornell Road Elementary School and entire Pittsford community joins me in applauding Alyssas and Julia for their awareness and concern for the environment."
The annual statewide competition pitted students in Grades One through Eight against other schools for presentations of ideas and solutions to the problems of solid waste reduction and encouraging recycling. Entries were judged for creativity, subject matter and originality.
A reception and awards ceremony for the winners will be held at the state Capitol on Tuesday, May 20. The winning entries as well as other participating projects, will be on public display.
"Each and every student who participated and submitted a project should be commended for their hard work and creativity, I am so proud of the winning entries," said Senator Alesi. "I offer my congratulations and look forward to welcoming Alyssas, Julia and other representatives from the Thornell Road Elementary School to Albany on May 20."
