Senator Serrano Joins Other Elected Officials At The Museum Of The City Of New York's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On Wednesday, August 13, 2008, the Senator spoke at a ribbon cutting ceremony for 3,000 square feet of new gallery space at The Museum of the City of New York.  The James G. Dinan and Elizabeth R. Miller Gallery was made possible through a mixture of government funding and private funds. The Senator is among the museum's strongest supporters in Albany.

"I am overjoyed to see that the city is investing in its cultural institutions," Senator Serrano said. "Institutions like the Museum of the City of New York are among the main reasons that people visit our city. They are an engine of economic development."

The new pavilion, which is the first temperature controlled part of the museum, will house temporary exhibitions. It is the first stage of a three-phase project that signals the rebirth of the museum.

"I am proud that East Harlem can claim this world-class cultural institution," the Senator said. "With these new spaces, and under the leadership of Susan Henshaw Jones, I am confident that the museum will take its rightful place among the great city museums of the world."
