Free Bully Prevention Seminar

Co-sponsored by Senator Marty Golden

October 6, 2008

- Today, Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts of Bensonhurst announced that it will be hosting a Free Bully Prevention Seminar for children and parents of the community. The event will be held on Saturday October 18th at Tiger Schulmann’s of Bensonhurst located at 8501 New Utrecht Avenue (between 85th & 86th Streets) in Brooklyn from 3:30pm-5:00pm.

The seminar will focus on teaching children basic bully prevention skills through interactive skits, demonstrations and crowd participation for both children and adults, all conducted by the black belt instructors of Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts. These fun and educational activities will teach children how to avoid and discourage bullying, what to do when encountering a bullying situation, how to communicate bullying situations to teachers and family, how to handle physical confrontations and how to be confident in a non-aggressive way. Parents will also be coached on how to identify signs that their child is being bullied, how to keep the lines of communication open on the subject of bullying and will be provided information on bullying resources.

"Being bullied can be devastating to a child. And out of embarrassment, most kids never tell their parents about it," said Sensei Anthony Viscovich, head instructor of Tiger Schulmann’s in Bensonhurst. "No child should have to be subjected to the fear and trauma associated with bullying. Our seminars are specifically designed to empower kids to be able to stand up for themselves, to not be afraid and to be confident enough to repel and discourage bullying."

The event is being co-sponsored by (22nd District) NY Senator Marty Golden, who has long been a strong advocate for bully prevention. Senator Marty Golden stated, "I commend Tiger Schulmann’s Mixed Martial Arts of Bensonhurst for their offering this free Bully Prevention Seminar for children and parents of this community. The presence of bullies in school, on teams and elsewhere, is very real and threatens our children. Many times our children are afraid to say something and it takes a great toll on them. Bullying affects both the educational and social life of our children, so we must teach prevention and communication to insure their safety and well-being."

This free Bully Prevention Seminar is part of the Tiger Schulmann’s CHILDSAFE

sm Program, established in 1992 as a program designed to teach awareness about child safety in our communities, and to encourage communication between parents and children about these vital issues.

Parents should call Tiger Schulmann’s of Bensonhurst at (718) 234-8443 for more information and to reserve space for their child in this important free seminar.
