Senator Golden Encourages Residents To Donate To Relief Efforts In China

NEW YORK STATE SENATE CITY DELEGATION URGES CONSTITUENTS

TO COME TO THE AID OF VICTIMS OF CHINA EARTHQUAKE

Senators to set up Drop Boxes in Area Offices

Senators Martin Golden, Frank Padavan, Serphin Maltese, and Andrew Lanza today urged New York City residents to get involved and make a donation on behalf of the victims of the earthquake in China that has already left more than 40,000 dead, another 32,000 missing and thousands more homeless.

"These natural disasters killed thousands, destroyed homes, and left children without their parents," said Senator Golden. "In the aftermath of September 11th, Hurricane Katrina, and last year’s tsunami, the people of the great City of New York stood together to help those in need during times of great devastation. I urge all New Yorkers to come together now to offer our goods, our services, and our support to the victims of these terrible tragedies."

"The massive earthquake in the Sichuan province of China and the cyclone in Myanmar have tragically killed tens of thousands and has left an entire region of the world in a state of shock and loss," Senator Padavan said. "As New Yorkers we can collectively do our part to help the victims of these two tragedies in their time of need. I urge everyone to show their support and give what they can in our relief efforts."

"New Yorkers have proven their humanity and thoughtfulness time and time again, helping others in times of crisis," said Senator Maltese. "Our Chinese American community has been very generous in helping others and now it is our turn to help them. I encourage anyone who is wondering how to help, to contact my office and we will make sure their donations are sent directly to those in need."

"Tens of thousands have been killed and millions have been left homeless by last week's devastating earthquake in China," said Senator Andrew Lanza. "I would like extend my condolences to those injured and to the families of the victims. I urge Staten Islanders to stand behind these people -- whose lives have been shattered -- and contribute to the relief efforts."

The Senators will be opening up their NYC offices to accept donations for the growing number of victims that devastated Asia. Suggested contributions include: tents, bandages, gloves, toothbrushes and mouthwash, baby wipes, batteries, flashlights, hand cream and lotion, protective clothing, goggles, thermometers, toiletries, bottled water, and canned food and soda.
