Senator Martin Golden Named 2008 Eco-Star
 
NEW YORK --- The New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving New York’s environment, has named Senator Martin Golden (R-22 nd District, Brooklyn) a 2008 “Eco-Star” for his efforts to ensure that all New Yorkers can enjoy clean air, more efficient mass transit and a better quality of life.
“Senator Martin Golden played a pivotal role in advancing an environmental agenda in Albany,” said NYLCVEF President Marcia Bystryn. “We look forward to working with him and all of our elected leaders on the many challenges ahead, particularly mass transit funding and smart growth.”
 
In the 2008 legislative session, which ended last month, Senator Golden was one of the most outspoken supporters of congestion pricing, providing crucial support both in the Senate and the communities of
South Brooklyn. The senator also sponsored legislation that would have allowed the city to move forward on an ambitious bus rapid transit project, which unfortunately died in the Assembly. NYLCVEF applauds Senator Golden’s commitment to better mass transit and we look forward to working with him in the coming months to address the MTA’s serious financial hurdles.

Senator Golden was one of 10 lawmakers, representing both parties and houses, recognized for their support of the environment. The other 2008 Eco-Stars are: Sen. Andrew Lanza (R-Staten Island), Sen. Kenneth LaValle (R-Suffolk County), Sen. Vincent Leibell (R-Dutchess and Westchester Counties), Assemblyman Jonathan Bing (D-Manhattan), Assemblyman Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster and Dutchess Counties), Assemblyman Steve Englebright (D-Suffolk County), Assemblyman Adriano Espaillat (D-Manhattan), Assemblyman Brian Kavanagh (D-Manhattan) and Assemblyman Robert Sweeney (D-Suffolk County).
