Statement From Senator Martin Malavé Dilan On The Resignation Of Governor Eliot Spitzer

Martin Malavé Dilan

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin Malavé Dilan (D-Brooklyn) today released the following statement concerning the resignation of Governor Eliot Spitzer:

While I am still trying to make sense of the shocking events that have transpired surrounding Governor Spitzer, my thoughts and prayers are with the entire Spitzer family during what must be a very difficult time.  Governor Spitzer, during his tenure as Governor, pursued an aggressive agenda that has come to an unfortunate and untimely end.  I want to assure my constituents in Brooklyn, that we in the Senate will remain focused on the task at hand, which is to adopt a responsible and fair budget that equitably addresses the concerns and needs of the 19 million residents of New York.

“As we move forward, I am fully confident that Lieutenant Governor David Paterson will prove to be an effective and focused Executive for the State of New York.  I had the privilege of serving with David Paterson while he was Minority Leader of the Senate, and I believe that our good working relationship will continue as he assumes his new role as Governor.  We are truly part of ‘One New York’ and I know that as we move forward the faith and trust of the citizens in our ability to govern will be restored.”
