Senator Saland Secures Funding For The Village Of Wappingers Falls

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced he has secured funding in the 2008-2009 State Budget for the Village of Wappingers Falls for a sewer jet and infrastructure improvements for Mill Street.

The Village’s sewer catchment mains, most of which were constructed in 1914, have deteriorated and require increasing attention each year. The existing 25 year old sewer jet is no longer adequate to repeatedly clear collapsed lines, causing the Village to contract out the service. The $50,000 cost of a sewer jet will more than pay for itself after just a few uses.

Additionally, Mill Street is in a dangerous condition from a failing water main, requiring remediation, including repaving and drainage improvement from Route 9D to High Street. Senator Saland secured $85,000 from the State Multi-Modal Program for the repaving and drainage work.

"Like many towns and villages in New York, Wappingers Falls’ infrastructure is close to 100 years old and in need of extensive repair. This is a public safety issue -- the people in the Village need to have confidence that their streets are safe for vehicles and pedestrians alike. The purchase of a new sewer jet to help keep the sewers operating efficiently, and the repaving of a portion of Mill Street will help restore that confidence. I’m glad I was able to secure funding for both these vital projects in the State Budget," said Senator Saland.

Our aging Village with only 5,000 residents has an overwhelming amount of infrastructure needs which we have planned to attack in a systematic manner.
