MARCELLINO CALLS ON PRESIDENT TO EXPAND DISASTER ASSISTANCE FOR SUFFOLK COUNTY - FEDERAL DISASTER AID APPROVED FOR NASSAU

Carl L Marcellino

Senator Carl L. Marcellino today announced that Federal disaster assistance has been expanded to include homeowners, renters and small businesses in Nassau County as a result of damages incurred by Hurricane Irene.

He called on President Obama and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to expand federal disaster assistance to Suffolk County so home and business owners can also apply for federal assistance.

“I am pleased that FEMA is moving quickly to further assess the damages and needs of New Yorkers impacted by Hurricane Irene, and those residents of Nassau County who suffered extensive damages from the storm have been included,” Senator Marcellino said.  “However, Suffolk County homeowners and business owners have also been impacted and I am urging the federal government to provide whatever assistance is needed to help Suffolk County recover.”

Senator Marcellino said. “I urge residents and small businesses who suffered losses in Nassau County to call FEMA’s registration number – 1-800-621-3362. If you think you may be eligible you must register with FEMA and you should make that call or visit the website at http://www.fema.gov/news/event.fema?id=15533 today.

While localities in Suffolk County will be eligible to receive federal assistance to pay for road, bridge and infrastructure repairs related to the storm, home and business owners were not included on the list for disaster assistance. Senator Marcellino is urging the President to include them.
