WGRZ: State Senator Gallivan Proposes SAFE Act Reform
A state lawmaker who wants to see the SAFE Act repealed is now taking a different approach. State Senator Patrick Gallivan's plan calls to peel back one layer at a time.
Changes Gallivan would like to see include removing the the seven round limit from law, providing exemptions for high-capacity magazines that were owned prior to the implementation of the SAFE Act and implement changes to background checks for ammunition sales.
Gallivan said, "I want to make sure as many of these provisions as possible are addressed. So if the proposed legislation currently does not exist, then we will be introducing legislation to address each of these individual areas.
Gallivan would also like to see changes to mental health provisions when it comes to due process and he wants it so pistol permit information is not accessible to the public.
The legislation is expected to be introduced this week.
