State budget negotiations continue in Albany (VIDEO)
State lawmakers in both the Senate and Assembly are involved in budget proposals with the April 1 deadline rapidly approaching. Governor Hochul released her 2025 $233 billion spending plan on January 18.
On Monday, Senator James Skoufis (D-Cornwall) told Mid-Hudson News “We’re in the midst of budget negotiations” before he left Newburgh on his way to Albany.
The budget process, which historically fails to meet the April 1 deadline, is a lengthy process. Once Hochul released her budget, both houses began their review process. The Senate passed its proposed budget last week. The Assembly also presents a budget and in the next few weeks, according to Skoufis, negotiations on all three budget proposals will take place, resulting in a final budget that will be voted on by lawmakers.
