Larkin Authors Resolution Honoring Ve-day

The State Senate today passed a Legislative Resolution introduced by Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) commemorating the 60th Anniversary of VE-Day, Victory in Europe during World War II, and making Thursday, May 5, 2005 the official day New York State will observe and honor this historic event.

A special ceremony declaring Thursday, May 5, 2005, to be the official day of observance statewide will be held tomorrow at the New York State World War II Memorial in Albany, New York. Officials and veterans from across the State will gather to observe this important anniversary

"Recognizing the 60th anniversary of VE-Day is extremely important to us as patriotic and grateful Americans," said Senator Larkin. "It gives us an important opportunity for greater understanding and appreciation of the selfless sacrifices of the brave individuals who served our country during World War II. VE-Day was a triumph that ended a devastating war in Europe for nearly six years. It was the extraordinary courage of a special generation of Americans and the passion for freedom of our Allies that defeated an evil regime and laid the foundation for the liberties we enjoy today."
