People with physical challenges will be able to access the Cattaraugus County Fairground grandstand easier, thanks to a $15,500 grant obtained by State Senator Catharine Young (R,I,C - Olean). The funding will provide for purchase and installation of a vertical platform lift on the grandstand for people with physical disabilities.

A handicapped-accessible area located in front of the grandstand was becoming increasingly unsafe due to debris flying through the fence at some of the races, and visibility in this location was obstructed by a concrete barrier. The lift will assist those in wheelchairs and elderly as well as prevent work injuries among staff.

"The new lift will help our disabled and elderly population better enjoy the Cattaraugus County Fair, making it safer and more accessible," Senator Young said. "This funding will ensure that the entire community can enjoy all the festivities held at the fairgrounds."

"The Cattaraugus County Agricultural Society appreciates Senator Young's efforts in helping us obtain funds to install the new elevator lift on our grandstand," said Nell Fellows, Secretary of the Cattaraugus County Agricultural Society. "For many years we have looked for ways to better serve our fairgoers who have difficulty accessing our grandstand. This new elevator will do just that."

The Cattaraugus County Fairgrounds has been an important part of Cattaraugus County history for 164 years, with the grandstand having been in existence since 1926.
