Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

July 15, 2009

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) will be sponsoring a breast cancer screening program on Thursday, August 20th at the Massapequa Library.

"One of the best ways to overcome breast cancer is early detection. Women need to make mammograms an annual event in their lives, because they play a vital role in detecting and treating breast cancer," stated Senator Fuschillo.

The screenings will be held from 8:30 am to 2:10 pm at the Massapequa Library, Bar Harbour Building, which is located at 40 Harbor Lane in Massapequa Park. Appointments are necessary and will be scheduled on first-come, first-served basis. On-site nurses and technicians from the Nassau Health Care Corporation will provide a mammography, a clinical breast examination and instructions for self examination. Patients and their physicians will be notified of the exam results.

The Nassau Health Care Corporation’s guidelines for the program are as follows:

* The program is open to all Nassau County women ages 40 and over.

* Women covered by insurance, Medicaid or Medicare will have their carrier billed and must bring their information card to the screening. Nassau Health Care Corporation policy now requires patients to be responsible for any co-pays charged by their carrier.

* Women ages 50 and older without health insurance will not incur any out-of-pocket costs.

* Nassau Health Care Corporation will contact uninsured women under the age of 50 prior to their appointment to participate in a financial clearance program to see if they are eligible for Medicaid and/or other government assistance programs.

Women who would like to take advantage of the screening program should call Senator Fuschillo’s office at (516) 882-0630 to make an appointment.
