Senator Skelos Honors Rosalie Norton as His 2009 Woman of Distinction

Senate Republican Leader Dean G. Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) today honored Rosalie Norton, president of the West Hempstead Civic Association, as his 2009 Woman of Distinction. The recipients were honored on June 10, 2009 at a reception in the Capitol Building in Albany.
“I am proud to honor Rosalie Norton as my 2009 Woman of Distinction,” said Senator Skelos. “She is a pillar within the community of West Hempstead and has worked tirelessly throughout the years on important education issues as well as continuously working to improve the quality of life the residents have come to expect.”
Rosalie is an exceptional woman dedicated to her family and her community. She is a loving wife, mother of three, and grandmother of seven. Rosalie has devoted much of her time over the years to helping shape the education of her children and the children of West Hempstead through her extensive work as School Board Trustee and Library Trustee and as a leader in the PTA not only in West Hempstead, but in Nassau County, and throughout the State. Rosalie is currently the President of the West Hempstead Civic Association and she is a member of many community organizations in West Hempstead.
For her continued service within her community, Rosalie Norton has earned the respect and admiration of many individuals and organizations. Rosalie has been honored with many outstanding awards for her hard work, these include: the Make a Difference Award from the Town of Hempstead, the Life Time Achievement Award from the West Hempstead School Board, the Service Above Self Award from the West Hempstead Rotary, Assemblyman Tom Alfano’s Woman of Distinction, the West Hempstead Lion’s Robert Uplinger Distinguished Service Award, the Herald Newspaper’s West Hempstead Person of the Year, the Cathedral Gardens Civic Association Neighbor of the Year, Vision Long Island’s Smart Growth award for Community Leadership, and finally, the American Legion Cathedral Post # 1087 Community Service Award.
“Rosalie now joins that of other women whose accomplishments within their communities serve as an example to all women. Her dedication to the community of West Hempstead will empower and encourage young women in the future to take an active leadership role in shaping West Hempstead,” said Senator Skelos
The Women of Distinction honors outstanding women from across New York State. This program was created in 1998 to honor New York women who exemplify personal excellence, or whose professional achievements or acts of courage, selflessness, integrity or perseverance serve as an example to all New Yorkers.
