Senator Farley Reminds Constituents of March 1st STAR Deadline

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) remind constituents that the date for applying or reapplying for the School Tax Relief Program (STAR) is rapidly approaching.
"Every year some people miss out on their STAR savings because they miss the deadline," Senator Farley said. "In most towns and cities, the deadline is March 1st. I strongly suggest that residents contact their local assessor to confirm their municipality's deadline."
City of Amsterdam's STAR deadline is not until December 1st, Senator Farley warned, so residents in that municipality do not need to worry about the March 1st date. "But keep the December 1st date marked on your calendar so you know when you need to apply in Amsterdam," the Senator said.
The following people need to apply:
* If you are a senior receiving the Enhanced STAR exemption, but you are not on the automatic income verification program, you must reapply each year to confirm your eligibility;
* If you are currently 64, and will turn 65 in 2010, you may be eligible for the Enhanced exemption, but you must apply now (you do not need to be 65 to apply);
* If you have moved or are a new homeowner.
For more specific information pertaining to your municipality, call your local assessor. For general STAR information, visit the State Office of Real Property Services by clicking here, or read my attached STAR brochure.
