2 Broadway
New York, New York 10004
Dear Mr. Prendergast,
I am writing to you at this time on behalf of constituents of my district who contacted me to inform me of the presence of heavy water accumulation at Bay Ridge Avenue (R Line) train station. Each time New York City experiences heavy rains, this station is inflicted with an unusually high amount of water.
As you can imagine, the water causes the quality of the traveling experience of so many to be ruined as they are forced to walk through water, at times ankle high, in order to pass through the turnstile and wait for the train at the platform. This morning, my office received another complaint about these conditions, and I asked a member of my staff to go and check this location so to bring this matter to your attention.
I am hopeful that you will insure that the necessary authorities within your agency be assigned to check the conditions of this station and try to prevent this from happening in the future. I am understanding of the fact that at times, really heavy rain create major problems and flooding in train stations throughout the system. However, I believe that this is beyond that and occurrences are more regular. Rain almost always causes an accumulation at this station and I am requesting the attention of the New York City Transit Authority so to try and create a long term solution.
I look forward to hearing from you. If you should have any further questions, please contact my District Manager, John Quaglione, or myself, at (718) 238-6044. Thank you for you continued cooperation and assistance in addressing the transit needs of my district.
Sincerely,
Martin J. Golden
State Senator
