Statement by Senator Golden on U.s. Senate Failure to Pass the Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn), a former New York City Police Officer, has issued the following statement in response to the United States Senate’s failure today to pass the 9/11 James Zadroga Health and Compensation Act. Senator Golden had recently started an online petition urging the U.S. Senate to approve this measure.

“Members of the United States Senate have failed all Americans today by voting against the September 11th James Zadroga Health and Compensation Act. Most importantly, the United States Senate has ignored the heroes who responded to America’s emergency call on the morning of September 11, 2001.

The United States Senators who fought against this legislation are negatively effecting the lives and health of those who came to America’s assistance on, and immediately after, our Nation’s darkest day. This vote sends the wrong message across our country and the world, that America has ignored the service of our first responders and the health of their citizens.

This is the time for America to stand up to aid those who are sick and dying as a result of their efforts at Ground Zero. This is the time for the United States Senators who represent the people of these United States of America to do what is necessary for the health and well-being to support our American heroes who were there, when our nation was first attacked, in the war we are today fighting against terrorism.

The United States Senate must follow the United States House of Representatives and approve this legislation.”
