Senator Martins Speaks With Members of the South Floral Park Civic Association

State Senator Jack Martins spoke to the South Floral Park Civic Association this past week where he discussed State and local issues on the minds of Village residents. The meeting was held at Village Hall where President Anthony Barbieri and Executive Board Members gave reports on Village Civic Matters.

Senator Martins called the gathering, “a great way to listen to what’s on the minds of community members. It's also a great opportunity to partner together and work for the greater community.” The well attended gathering had a question and answer format with local residents having the opportunity to ask Senator Martins questions and enter into a discussion with him.

“The civic’s format was very productive and allowed for community members to respond and offer their ideas on a variety of subjects,” said Senator Martins adding, “I was very pleased to hear their thoughts on economic development, education aid and job creation locally.”

During the meeting, one area that was explored by the group was their concern over the cuts to the Nassau County Police POP Unit. Senator Martins expressed his concerns to the group over the cut and offered his personal experience with the POP units when he was Mayor of the Village of Mineola. “The POP unit was a valuable resource that our Village, schools and community groups relied upon each and every day. I want to see it back up and running because I know it works,” said Martins.

At the end of the forum, a social was held that afforded local residents to mix and mingle with each other. “This was a great meeting and I can’t thank the South Floral Park Civic Association enough for their warm hospitality. I’ll be back soon,” concluded Martins.
