Award recognizes leaders for their efforts in promoting access to capital and economic development in states across the country

WASHINGTON, DC, August 9, 2011 – New York Senator James Alesi was honored this week as a “Champion of Small Business” by National Coalition for Capital.  Senator Alesi was recognized for his leadership at the annual National Coalition for Capital Awards Ceremony on August 8th in San Antonio, Texas.  The Champion of Small Business Award recognizes individuals for demonstrating leadership in supporting policies and initiatives designed to promote access to capital for small businesses and entrepreneurs, especially those in economically distressed communities.

“This award recognizes Senator Alesi’s important work to preserve and create jobs through access to capital policy that helps New York small businesses grow and develop,” said Michael Votta, Executive Director of the National Coalition for Capital.  “Senator Alesi has demonstrated he is a champion of small business, and his efforts will have an enduring positive impact on New York.”

Senator Alesi is a former small-business owner, and as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Economic Development, brought real experience and common sense to several of this year’s top economic initiatives in New York State – most importantly, Senator Alesi spearheaded a state budget that reduced government spending, cut the deficit, removed crippling regulations on New York’s small businesses, and set New York on the path to economic recovery.

“As I have said repeatedly, my top priorities have been revitalizing New York’s economy and putting people back to work,” said Senator Alesi.  “What our small businesses and entrepreneurs need is assurances that we hear their concerns and are here to help.  Now more than ever, it is critical that elected officials do their part to advance innovative access to capital policies that allow our small businesses to expand and prosper.  “I am honored to be named a ‘Champion of Small Business’ by the National Coaltion for Capital, and I will continue to support small businesses and entrepreneurs as they strive to preserve and grow jobs in our communities.
