Queens, NY, September 12, 2011-- I am grateful that FEMA inspected areas of my district, assessed the damages sustained by my constituents and determined that the residents of Queens County may be awarded individual financial assistance as homeowners, tenants and small businesses recover from Hurricane Irene.
Most of the constituents my office have been assisting are in dire need of financial relief as they seek to replace boilers, flooring, furniture, walls, and repair other damages from the hurricane. For those seniors, retirees and hard-working individuals who need FEMA aid, my office staff and I will work with FEMA and the offices of the governor and mayor to process their claims.
I encourage residents that have property damage from Irene to immediately register with FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 or register online. The process to register with FEMA may take a number of minutes, but for many it will be worth the effort.
Residents and businesses can apply for assistance online at http://www.disasterassistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362. Applicants who have a speech or hearing disability and use TTY can call 1-800-462-7585. THE TOLL FREE PHONE NUMBERS OPERATE FROM 7:00 AM TO10:00 PM, 7 DAYS A WEEK.
