Zeldin Posthumously Awards New York State Senate Liberty Medal To Infantryman John P. Jennings

Hauppauge, NY- State Senator Lee Zeldin (R, C, I- Shirley) announced today that he has presented the New York State Senate Liberty Medal to the family of Iraq War Veteran John P. Jennings of Suffolk County.

“John was a man who sacrificed so much of himself in Iraq, experienced the loss of many of his comrades in arms, and suffered injuries that haunted him until the end. He was fiercely loyal and patriotic to his core,” said Senator Zeldin.  “I am presenting this medal as a tribute to his service to his country and the great credit his service has brought upon the State of New York.”

Jennings enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was a Lieutenant in Alpha Company, 69th Infantry, Mechanized, based in New York.  He served in combat in Iraq from September 2004 to October 2005.

The New York State Liberty Medal is the New York State Senate’s highest award for recognizing distinguished citizens.  It is awarded pursuant to a Senator’s recommendation.
