Joe Delfino, Superintendent
Brooklyn Sanitation District 10
5100 1st Avenue
Brooklyn, New York 11220
Dear Mr. Delfino,
As a follow up to my phone call this morning, I write to you at this time opposing plans that will remove street trash receptacles from local street corners, especially those with a high volume of pedestrian activity due to mass transportation.
I would like to bring to your attention to the corner intersections of Bay Ridge Avenue and 4th Avenue, as well as the corners of 76th and 77th Street, on 4th Avenue, that are frequented by “R” train users. I could not begin to describe to you the conditions they would be in if garbage pails were removed.
I continue to encourage that arrangements be made within the operations of BK 10 Sanitation so to make sure that an additional basket pickup is made at these, and other, key intersections. Additionally, I would encourage an increase in enforcement so to address the problems caused by the illegal disposal of household and residential waste in our City litter baskets.
As we continue to wage the “Don’t Litter” campaign, we must work together to strive to obtain the best quality of life for our neighborhood. It is important that we be cognizant of the fact that without garbage pails, litter will be thrown on our streets, and in instances, placed in the garbage pails of nearby homeowner, leaving them subject to fines if the waste is not properly sorted.
I would welcome the opportunity to travel throughout the district with you and review this matter in greater detail in an effort to enhance the cleanliness of our streets. I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your attention.
Sincerely,
Martin J. Golden
State Senator
