Statement by Senator Golden Criticizing Official U.s. Census Figures

Brooklyn – State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, Brooklyn) today issued a statement strongly criticizing the United States Census Bureau in response to the announcement of the official 2010 United States Census figures:

“The United States Census Bureau did an abominable job in conducting a full and thorough count of the people who reside in New York. These depressed numbers will be sure to have a long term effect on both federal and state funding for the City of New York. The truth of the matter is that this did not have to conclude this way.

One area where the count was clearly ineffective is that of apartment dwellers, where results indicate that thousands were missed. This inefficiency has left communities severely undercounted despite a mandate by the federal government to count all documented and undocumented.

Literally, billions upon billions of taxpayer dollars were expended on this failed effort. All avenues, including legal action, needs to be explored in order to correct this injustice.”
