State Senator Owen H. Johnson (4th Senate District, Babylon), recently honored Beth Delli-Pizzi of West Islip as a 2012 New York State Senate “Woman of Distinction.” Ms. Delli-Pizzi was among women from throughout New York State who were honored at the Women of Distinction Award Ceremony held at the State Capitol on May 15, 2012.
Following many years working full-time as an attorney, Ms. Delli-Pizzi started her own law practice from home in 2008 after her husband, Lou Delli-Pizzi, a lieutenant in the 69th Infantry Regiment, was deployed for duty in Afghanistan. Ms. Delli-Pizzi was instrumental in spearheading the development of the Long Island Family Readiness Group (FRG). As a leader of the FRG, Ms. Delli-Pizzi has helped raise over $50,000 in funds for care packages sent overseas to soldiers.
“Beth Delli-Pizzi has been a leader in caring for Long Island’s soldiers as they defend our country,” Senator Owen H. Johnson said. “Her efforts, through the Long Island Family Readiness Group, make her an inspiration to us all. I am truly honored to have nominated her as a New York State Senate Woman of Distinction.”
Other services Ms. Delli-Pizzi has helped provide through her work with the FRG include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder support for returning soldiers and their families and casualty assistance for families of fallen soldiers. She also assisted families of deployed soldiers with anything that was needed, from babysitting services to plumbing repairs, developing a network of individuals to support soldiers’ families. The services provided by the FRG have been recognized by local towns, as well as the United States Congress.
Ms. Delli-Pizzi received a bachelor’s degree from Springfield College in Massachusetts in 1981, a paralegal degree from Georgetown University in 1983, and her Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School in 1991.
Senator Johnson explained that the Senate’s Women of Distinction program was created as part of the Senate’s celebration of Women’s History Month. The program, which started in 1998, honors exceptional achievement, personal excellence and outstanding, courageous and heroic actions on the part of individual women from all across the State. Each honoree’s photograph and biography becomes part of a special exhibit that honors and celebrates the unique accomplishments of exemplary women in New York.
