Designation honors Saland’s commitment to agriculture
Senator Steve Saland (R, I, C Poughkeepsie) today announced that he has been named to the New York Farm Bureau’s “Circle of Friends” for the 2011 legislative session. The award is based on a legislator’s voting record on issues of importance to New York agriculture, bills sponsored by the legislator, as well as overall legislative support for agricultural issues. Senator Saland has been named to the “Circle of Friends” every year since its inception in 1990.
“A strong agricultural industry is beneficial to our regional and state economy, and to all New York State residents,” stated Senator Saland. “I am proud to have partnered with the Farm Bureau on many initiatives. In 2011, we enacted a new law (S.3626), which helps protect the future of the state’s agricultural industry by facilitating better access and communication between our local government officials and the technical resources of the Department of Agriculture and Markets.”
"Through his positive voting record Senator Saland has clearly demonstrated that he understands the concerns of farmers in his district and the importance of agriculture to our State's economy," said Dean Norton, President of New York Farm Bureau " Each year, New York Farm Bureau recognizes members of the legislature who demonstrate a strong commitment to the agricultural industry through our "Circle of Friends" program. On behalf of the nearly 30,000 members of New York Farm Bureau, I am pleased to provide the "Circle of Friends" designation to Senator Saland and to thank him for his work on behalf of farm families in his district and across our great state."
The New York Farm Bureau, the state’s largest general farm advocacy organization, works closely with the State legislature to strengthen and enhance the agricultural industry in New York State.
