Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (R-Merrick) recently joined with local veterans in remembering the 72nd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor during the Long Island Air Force Association’s annual “Dropping of the Roses” ceremony.
As part of the annual ceremony, which was held at the American Airpower Museum in Farmingdale, veterans, local officials, and residents gathered together as roses were blessed with water from Pearl Harbor. An aircraft then took off from Republic Airport and dropped the roses over the Statue of Liberty in honor of those who died in the attack. The roses were dropped at approximately 12:55 pm New York time, which was the same time the attack on Pearl Harbor began. The ceremony also honored three local veterans who were at Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 and fought back against the attacking forces.
Senator Fuschillo is pictured as he pays tribute to those who gave their lives at Pearl Harbor and thanks all the veterans present at the ceremony for their service to our country.
