Senator Defrancisco Announces More Than $3.4 Million to Be Allocated for Road and Bridge Repair Projects in the 50th Senate District

State Senator John A. DeFrancisco (R,I,C) announced that more than $3.4 million in state funds will be allocated to the 50th Senate District for road and bridge repairs as part of the 2013-14 Budget under the Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS).

“I am pleased to see an increase in the amount of money provided for road and bridge repair for the first time in five years,” said State Senate Finance Chairman John A. DeFrancisco. “We desperately need these infrastructure improvements for communities throughout our state, and these projects will help to create local jobs and stimulate the economy.”

This year’s Enacted Budget will include $438 million in funding statewide, a $75 million increase in funding for the CHIPS program, the first increase since the 2008-09 Budget.

The Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) was established by the Legislature in 1981. The funds go directly to local governments to support repairs to the highways, bridges, and roads that they operate and maintain.
