Statement From Senator Griffo Regarding Governor Cuomo's Tourism-Related Visit to Lowville

New York will spend $4.5 million on print, radio and television advertisements promoting the Tug Hill Region in state, national and international markets. Governor Andrew Cuomo made the announcement today at The Ridgeview Inn, Lowville.

“I’m pleased that Governor Cuomo has decided to spotlight the Tug Hill region as part of the state’s ‘I Love NY’ tourism campaign. This is the premier destination in New York for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds, especially during the winter months. Snowmobilers provide $868 million in economic impact annually, including more than $165 million right here in the Tug Hill. That’s why I’ve been pleased to support several pieces of legislation designed to make snowmobiling more enjoyable and safer.”

Senator Griffo sponsored the following legislation:

• S1973A (2013): Establishing a non-trail snowmobile registration for snowmobiles which shall be used solely for the purpose of gaining access to hunting, fishing & trapping area
   
• S3335B (2013): Establishes a practical noise field test for snowmobiles – signed into law Nov. 13
   
• S7059A (2012): Designates a portion of State Route 8, Town of Deerfield, Oneida County for snowmobile use – signed into law Aug. 1, 2012
   
• S2859A (2011): Provides a tax abatement for landowners allowing snowmobiling on their land

He also voted in support of the following:

• S554 (2011): Allowing a person under 14 years old to operate a snowmobile as a participant in a special event, such as Snocross – passed Senate

The senator was also named the 2012 New York State Snowmobile Association William Sears Legislator of the Year for his continued support of organized snowmobiling in New York state.
