Larkin Honored for His Service to the 65th Infantry Regiment

The 65th Infantry Honor Task Force today dedicated the opening of its “65th Infantry Regiment/American Latinos in the United States Military” exhibit to Senator Bill Larkin (R-C, Cornwall-on-Hudson) for his unwavering support of the 65th Infantry Regiment.  The exhibit will be displayed in the Taino Stickball Community Gallery in New York City.

The 65th Infantry Regiment, more commonly known as the “Borinqueneers,” was an all Puerto Rican unit that served in the United States Armed Forces during WWI, WWII and the Korean War.  The Borinqueneers served with distinction and earned numerous awards and decorations including: two Presidential Unit Citations, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, and two Republic of Korea Unit Citations.  

A strong supporter of the 65th Infantry Regiment, Senator Larkin is the annual sponsor of a New York State Senate Legislative Resolution honoring the regiment for their service and sacrifice to the United States.  Last year, Senator Larkin also proudly participated in the renaming of Southern Boulevard in the Bronx to “The 65th Infantry Boulevard,” and just last month secured transportation so that 65th Infantry Regiment servicemembers and their families could visit America’s revered war memorials in Washington, D.C.  

“The Borinqueneers are an extraordinary group of men and I am very proud to be a part this dedication ceremony,” said Senator Larkin. “I encourage New Yorkers to visit this exhibit and to take a moment to give thanks for the Borinqueneers’ service to our great nation.”
