(Brooklyn, NY) – “Today, as we gather with our family and friends while ushering in 2014, I want to wish you and your loved ones a safe, prosperous, and healthy New Year.
We have much to be grateful for as we close out 2013 and embark on 2014. The new year is always a hopeful time when our possibility of fulfilling our personal and professional endeavors feels limitless. 2014 is an especially great year for New Yorkers as we welcome the first Democratic Mayor since 1993 in Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio; the first African-American female, Leticia James, elected to citywide office as Public Advocate, and the first African-American Brooklyn Borough President, my former Senate colleague and friend, Eric Adams. With a leadership team like this, there is little doubt that New York’s brightest days are ahead of us. This new leadership will also provide an example so that parents, seniors, young people and working families can continue to strive for economic and academic growth.
It is that spirit of progressive and caring leadership that has kept me in office for the past 11 years and will sustain me as I prepare for my fifth re-election race in 2014. Each year, we get closer to providing living wages with benefits for the countless working families who comprise the solid and diverse fabric of New York’s diverse quilt, and we achieve the solid progress that you elected me to deliver. I look forward to your continued inspiration, support and friendship.
Wishing you and yours a blessed and Happy New Year!”
