Albany, N.Y., March 10— State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) released the following statement on the announcement that Cornell University President David Skorton has been appointed as the next secretary of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., beginning in 2015:
"My sincerest congratulations to Dr. Skorton on his appointment to lead the Smithsonian Institution. It’s yet another noteworthy milestone during what has been a truly remarkable career. I’m grateful that we will have the time and the opportunity locally to properly express our appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Skorton for his unique stewardship of Cornell University, as well as for his leadership, through the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council, to begin putting in motion the strategy for a future economic turnaround across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions. We’ve been fortunate to enjoy Dr. Skorton’s commitment, energy and vision, and I personally wish him the very best as he prepares to take this next, once-in-a-lifetime step.”
